Printmaking

Printmaking is an art technique that involves the transfer of images from a template (also known as a matrix) onto another surface. Traditionally, woodblocks were used in the print making process. Embossed regions on the woodblock create black regions and engraved regions create white regions on the printed surface. Check out this website for a step-by-step guide on woodblock printing.

However, there are many other ways to create a template. I made mine on a piece of card. I used different materials such as cardboard, sandpaper, leaves, sticks, etc. to obtain different textures. Once the template is ready, use a roller to roll out some ink on a piece of glass and then apply it onto your template. I used an oil-based ink. Lastly, press out the template onto a paper (or any other surface).
